Control Union Officially Launches Operations in Papua New Guinea

Control Union proudly inaugurated its operations in Papua New Guinea (PNG) on 9th December 2024 at the prestigious Hilton Port Moresby. The event, which also hosted the Sustainable Action Conference (SAC) PNG Edition, highlighted the organization’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and growth across key industries in PNG.

The milestone event was graced by several distinguished guests, including the Hon. Francis Galia Maneke (Minister for Oil Palm), His Excellency Ambassador Jacques Fradin (Head of Delegation, European Union to PNG), and His Excellency Hamizan Hashim (High Commissioner of Malaysia to Papua New Guinea).

Event Highlights

  • Inaugural Speeches by Dignitaries and Industry Leaders:
    The event commenced with an inspiring speech by the Hon. Francis Galia Maneke, Minister for Oil Palm, who emphasized the critical role of sustainability in PNG’s vital oil palm sector. His Excellency Ambassador Jacques Fradin followed, highlighting the importance of sustainable trade and collaboration between PNG and the European Union.

Mr. Dirk Teichert, Vice Chairman of the Royal Peterson Control Union Group, addressed the audience, sharing Control Union’s global journey and vision for PNG’s development. His Excellency Hamizan Hashim, lent his esteemed presence, symbolizing the strong ties between Malaysia and PNG.

Panel Discussions: Insights and Innovations for PNG’s Industries:

The SAC PNG Edition featured two impactful panel discussions, moderated by experts from Control Union:

Certificate Presentations

As part of the celebration, Stettin Bay Lumber Company Ltd. was honored with FSC certification for achieving fully sustainable forestry standards. Monpi Coffee Exports Ltd. was also recognized with Rainforest Alliance certification under the Sustainable Agriculture Standard, reflecting PNG’s leadership in sustainable agriculture and forestry.

Expanding Control Union’s Global Vision to PNG
Control Union has been an active player in PNG since 2017, offering services in certifications, sustainability verifications, and risk management. The official launch of its PNG office marks a significant step in expanding its footprint and delivering localized solutions for agriculture, forestry, fisheries, oil and gas, and mining industries.
